Background & Education

Why Did I Become a School Counselor?

I knew I wanted to be a school counselor when I was in high school. Facing the normal challenges of school, I remember feeling like there wasn't a place or person I could go to on campus to talk. There were only guidance counselors that you could talk to about applying for college or your “next steps”. I knew at that time that I wanted to be "that person"- someone present and approachable for kids to go to.

I also struggled in math throughout school. Senior year of high school I was diagnosed with a learning difference. I understand and have empathy for students, learning difference or not, that learn at a different pace or in another way. This helps me teach and connect with students.
